Abidemi Kosoko: My Life As Jide Kosoko’s Daughter

Abidemi Kosoko is one of the daughters of the popular actor, Jide Kosoko. In this interview with Bolanle Oduekun, the actress speaks on how the theatre family has raised her game among other issues. Excerpts:

As one of the children of a big family in the Yoruba movie industry, could you let us into your family background?

No doubt about it, Kosoko is one of the biggest families in the industry and we are proud to have made a great mark in the industry.  It is a polygamous family and I’m happy to be part of it. I’m born into a theatre family, what I mean by that is that my dad is an actor and my mum was an actress, so I took after them.

How does it feel being a member of that family?

It is a great privilege. I feel great to be surrounded by  well experienced professionals of the industry.  I have an elder sister who acts and also an elder brother who is a script writer and a director. Two of my younger ones are beginning to develop interest in acting too and my father , a veteran actor, is a plus for me.

There was a report about you during your NYSC days that you were rude and arrogant, what do you have to say about it?

That was a funny story because nothing like that ever happened. I don’t need to start explaining because it will look like I am defending myself. I tell people not to judge a book by its cover. If you don’t know me, you will continue to say this or that. I have decided not to react to the story again. The question is why didn’t they write this story when I was still in service?  The fact is that people will talk because you can’t please everybody.  Some will like you and others will hate you for no reason. I’m not bothered about what they wrote because it’s not true.
